It also contains philosophical and metaphysical insights.
Samaveda: The Samaveda consists mainly of hymns from the Rigveda set to music (sung melodies). It is considered the Veda of melodies and chants.
Yajurveda: The Yajurveda contains prose mantras (verses) and rituals for use during sacrifices. It is divided into two main branches: the Krishna Yajurveda and the Shukla Yajurveda.
Atharvaveda: The Atharvaveda contains hymns, spells, and incantations for various purposes, including healing, protection, and prosperity. It also deals with philosophical and ethical topics.
Each Veda is further divided into four parts:
- Samhitas: The collection of hymns and mantras.
- Brahmanas: Ritualistic texts providing explanations and instructions for rituals and sacrifices.
- Aranyakas: Texts that delve into the philosophical and mystical aspects of the Vedas. They were typically studied in the seclusion of the forest (Aranya).
- Upanishads: Philosophical texts that explore the nature of reality, the self (Atman), and the ultimate reality (Brahman). They are considered the culmination of Vedic thought.
